I made $98,000 in 17 minutes.

And it was completely by accident.

Rewind to 2011.

I'm a young entrepreneur. Working on a really bad idea for an app. (I won’t bore you with the idea. But trust me, it sucked.)

During my research, I stumble across a 20-something woman making videos on YouTube. Her name is Teresa.

I notice she's posting these videos daily. Mostly about fashion and makeup. And getting a lot of attention. Easily 50,000 views per video.

I'm confused. Who is this girl? Is she famous? How is she racking up these eyeballs? So I send her a message.

"Hey! I’m Jon. Quick question – how are you getting all these views on your videos?"

Teresa responds. She tells me that she just makes them for fun, uploads them to YouTube, and people watch.

Hmm… that’s weird. I need to know more. I start typing.

"So it’s all for fun, huh? Are brands paying you to promote their products?”

"Nope," she replies.

This is wild. She’s reaching 150,000 people a week, doing free commercials for big brands, and people love it. They can't stop watching. It's bending my brain.

I keep typing.

“I just sold an internet company. And I know a lot about this space. I think you’re onto something big. Really big.”

My fingers freeze. I’m debating my next move. I can’t resist. So I ask a question:

“Do you want to partner with me on your next video? I’ll bring in a retailer. And we can promote products in their store. Let’s see how your audience responds. Sound good?"

"Sure!" she replies.

What happened next changed my life.

Teresa and I worked with this one brand.

And the video blew up. Generating big sales. The client was happy.

Then we did it with a second brand. Same response.

Then a third. Then a fourth. Then dozens. Showcasing products and driving revenue for each and every client.

This is how I discovered the world of influencer marketing.
